Come on down to George Floyd Square this Saturday, May 8th, 2021 at 1:00PM for a teach-in / workshop that should demystify some increasingly important subjects.

  • Freedom of Information: How it works, the types of information you can make public, tips and strategy.
  • Public Records: The Minnesota Government Data Practices Act, tips and tricks, things we need people to look into, etc.
  • Securing your information before heading out to protest: Does airplane mode keep your cellphone private, how can we detect surveillance such as Stingray and other IMSI Catchers, who’s flying that plane circling overhead? Much more.

This will be hosted by yours truly but with hopes of future events and more organizations and journalists involved. Ideally, we’ll move on to other parts of the Twin Cities (and beyond) to focus on areas that are underserved by local media organizations. Such communities can and should learn how to start using FOIA and data requests to get the information they need, as it is their right.

Fingers are remaining crossed that weather will stay warm and sunny but check Twitter.com/MinneapoliSam for updates and any last minute announcements.

WEAR YOUR MASK. Despite it being an outdoor event I urge you to please remain vigilant against this on going pandemic and keep your mask on while we cautiously gather and learn. THANK YOU!
